Glen Rock Health Professional Sees Success In Acupuncture

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Glen Rock acupuncturist Peter DeCicco first had classmates practice the traditional Eastern treatment on him to combat sudden fainting spells while in school. It worked.

Now he’s hoping he can help others.

“I want people to feel better and have their quality of life back,” the owner and operator of DeCicco Acupuncture on Lincoln Avenue told Daily Voice. “It’s a great feeling when… a patient has tried everything else and it hasn’t worked successfully, and then you’re able to help them.”

DeCicco hopes to give his patients the same success that he had with acupuncture.

“I want people to feel better and have their quality of life back,” he said. “It’s a great feeling when… a patient has tried everything else and it hasn’t worked successfully, and then you’re able to help them.”

Acupuncture can treat almost any health condition by using needles to reopen pathways for the body’s natural energy — or “chi” — to flow through, the licensed acupuncturist said.

“Acupuncture balances and harmonizes the body,” DeCicco explained. “There could be an excess or deficiency of chi — it helps to find imbalances in the organ systems.”

Many people are resistant to trying acupuncture because of a fear of needles — even though they’re “hair thin,” DeCicco said.

The acupuncturist uses several other methods such as cupping, scraping, massage techniques and more.

“Most people do things after the fact — after they get hurt,” DeCicco said. “Once the condition is under control… acupuncture is something for long-term and is preventative.”

DeCicco hopes that more people will consider acupuncture for treatment.

“I’ll ask new patients what made them decide to try it and they said they tried everything else —that it’s their last resort,” DeCicco said.

“I love that because I know there’s really a good chance the acupuncture is going to help them and when it does,” he said, “there’s nothing like it.”
